Partners in Public Art Murals

The Detroit Institute of Arts’ Partners in Public Art mural program is a collaboration with cities, townships and villages throughout the tri-county area to create community-driven, highly visible murals.

Since 2018, this program has brought residents together to explore their sense of community through a collaborative design and creation process, resulting in murals that reflect their unique stories and interests.

Applications for Community Partners (Macomb, Oakland, Wayne) & Artist Interest Forms are now open for 2026 & beyond.

PIPA Murals are made possible through collaboration with communities in Macomb, Oakland, & Wayne counties.

The design includes community responses such as nature and the Detroit River. The theater houses the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center and therefore there was also a desire to focus the mural on youth and the arts which is demonstrated in this playful and colorful design.
