A Good Day
About the mural
A reflection of Chesterfield’s unique interests, A Good Day depicts meaningful aspects of community life centered around bass fishing on Lake St. Clair. The scene captures a golden hour atmosphere with the view of a great blue heron, sailboats, and a motorboat. Cattails represent the wetland ecosystems characteristic of southeastern Michigan.
"I’m a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist who began my practice nearly a decade ago after moving to Detroit. The Detroit Institute of Arts has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my time in the city. Collaborating with the DIA is a true career highlight. I’m passionate about creating community-informed murals. Through Partners in Public Art, I hope to bring greater visibility to the Chesterfield Township community and continue inspiring it for years to come.”

From the Community
As part of the Partners in Public Art program, the DIA collaborated with Chesterfield Township to plan a vibrant community-driven mural. It is located on a wall of Chesterfield Township’s Fire Station 3.
"This mural is an artistic way to acknowledge and celebrate Chesterfield Township being a coastal community along the shores of Lake St. Clair. The end result demonstrates the project’s success. Our voices were heard and acknowledged during the selection process. I see it as a point of community pride for passersby.”
–Kathy Vosburg, Chesterfield Township Trustee.
