To celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, the Learning and Audience Engagement Division of the DIA presents Stars and Stripes Forever: An Art Appreciation. 

At the Detroit Institute of Arts, every visitor has a favorite work that stops them in their tracks. This interactive project invites guests to place a star beneath the artwork that resonates with them most, creating a collective map of the museum’s most loved works. 

Kicking off our summer Drop-In Workshop series, visit the Art Making studio to create something uniquely personal using a variety of fun and interesting materials in this open-ended drop-in workshop.  For all of July and August the DIA will offer Drop-In Workshops Wednesday through Sunday.

Create a pencil drawing to take home while taking a closer look at the collection. No experience is necessary. All supplies provided. For ages 6 and up (children ages 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult).

Participants will receive a journal and all the materials they need to experiment creating their very own Junk Journal. Utilizing recycled papers, magazines and various other scraps, to decorate, participants are also welcome to bring in their own photos and imagery to express their creativity.
