Join DIA's off-site Drop-In Workshop tent at Art on the Grand and learn about heraldry by making an art project. Heraldry emerged during the Middle Ages as a way to visually represent lords and knights. Learn more as you create a miniature coat-of-arms of your own design. 

Join DIA's off-site Drop-In Workshop activity at Grosse Ile Islandfest and make a simple puppet on strings using paper, pipe cleaner, a tongue depressor, and colorful markers.

Now in its 14th year, the Inside|Out program brings high-quality reproductions of the DIA’s collection to outdoor venues throughout metro Detroit to increase engagement between the museum and its diverse audience.

From now through October, residents of Macomb, Wayne, and Oakland counties will be able to enjoy a piece of the DIA outside in their own community. Each community will display a number of reproductions outdoors clustered within walking or biking distance.

Come and watch the best K-12 Michigan student films on the big screen at the historic Detroit Film Theatre. The Michigan Student Film Festival has been the Digital Arts, Film & Television (DAFT) signature event for 55 years and is held annually at the DIA.

This juried K-12 film festival is a high honor for students and serves as a gateway to professional careers. All types of film genres will be shown including narratives, animation, news broadcasts, experimental, documentaries and more. 

It will also be streamed live on the DAFT website at daftonline.org

Please join us for this educator-exclusive morning of relaxation and refreshment. Detroit Yoga Lab will host a no-experience-necessary yoga session in historic Rivera Court. Participants will also enjoy a complimentary smoothie bar and art-making session.

All educators are welcome at this event. Dress cozy and bring a yoga mat or thick blanket.

This dance puppet collaboration for all ages uses sound, objects and movement to narrate one little girl’s journey as she makes sense of the changing world around her. With choreography by Joori Jung and ArtLabJ, puppetry by Carrie Morris and the Detroit Puppet Company and an original score by composer Joo Won Park, audience members will be invited to participate in this story that explores themes of trust and release as we figure out how to exist in this world together.

Alex and Olmsted, the creative team behind  Milo The Magnificent, return to the DIA with their Jim Henson Foundation grant awarded MAROONED! A Space Comedy.

This innovative new puppet show, featuring music from the Voyager Golden Record, takes place at the outer reaches of space where an astronaut crashes on an uncharted planet.

Will she be able to survive strange creatures, anomalous atmosphere, and isolation in order to find her way home? See for yourself... in MAROONED! 

For families of all ages. Free with general museum admission. 

Generations of Korean artists have made patchwork cloths called bojagi (say: boh-jah-ghee). Traditionally, they created these cloths from scraps of fabric found in the home, carefully sewing them together by hand. Bojagi could be used to cover food, wrap gifts or precious items, or carry everyday things. 

Today, contemporary artists are reengaging with this tradition, investing bojagi with new meanings. 
 

Create a pencil drawing to take home while taking a closer look at the collection. No experience is necessary. All supplies provided.

For ages 6 - Adult (children ages 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult). Capacity is limited.

The term collage, derived from the French "coller," to glue, describes artwork made from a mix of different materials. Using this distinctive process, use a mix of paper to create a neighborhood scene.
