Award-winning writer and director John Sayles (Eight Men Out, The Brother From Another Planet) will read selections from his new novel, Crucible.
The book is a sweeping historical portrait of Detroit from the 1920s to the 1940s, focusing on Henry Ford’s attempt to rule not only an automotive empire but also the rambunctious city of Detroit—including Diego Rivera’s magnificent Detroit Industry murals, created for and preserved for all time by the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Crucible is an epic tale featuring violent labor disputes, ill-fated jungle expeditions, a tragic riot, and the racism and brutal tactics that spawned Ford’s private army, all told through a diverse cast of characters and richly cinematic storytelling.
During the evening, Mr. Sayles will read from and sign copies of his novel Crucible, which will be available for purchase.
