American Art before 1950

The DIA’s collection of American art is one of the best in the world. Totaling nearly 3,000 works of art, it includes paintings, sculpture, furniture, metalwork, ceramics, glass, and textiles produced in North and South America between 1600 and 1950. Produced by generations of artists and artisans, the objects tell many stories and express a wide range of attitudes about America and Americanness—America as a place, an identity, and an aspiration.
