About the Artwork
Called a "landscape poet" in his native England, Richard Long wants to communicate his love and reverence of nature with the viewer. He begins his works by taking long walks through the countryside and then collects and arranges stones in simple, geometric shapes that symbolize the landscape through which he has traveled. In this work, Long arranged stones as a metaphor for a path, acting as a distance marker or token of passage.
