About the Artwork
These doors are decorated with medallions showing single figures and couples feasting in a lush garden, reflecting the luxurious lifestyle of the Persian rulers in the seventeenth century. The doors are said to come from the pleasure pavilion of Shah ‘Abbas I in Isfahan and the style of paintings reflect the influence of Riza-i Abbasi, the shah’s leading court painter.
