At the Detroit Institute of Arts, we aim to be a gathering place for the community and we adhere to that philosophy by extending our hours during the holiday break! Enjoy the gift of art with your loved ones and enjoy some respite at the museum.

This year, there's only one gift you need. You gotta have art!
First airing in 1976, the DIA’s iconic “You Gotta Have Art" commercial became part of Michigan’s cultural fabric. Nearly 50 years later, we’re celebrating the holidays by reimagining this beloved classic as we look ahead to its 50th anniversary in 2026.
The message is timeless: art is for everyone. It connects us, lifts our spirits, and brings us together, especially during moments of reflection and celebration.
Here’s to honoring the past, welcoming the new year, and continuing to share art with all. Because now and always, you gotta have art.
Featuring a new, Motown-influenced musical arrangement by Marion Hayden and Alvin Waddles
Big Changes. Bold Art.
Since March 4, 2025, select galleries and other public spaces on the second floor of the museum temporarily closed to guests to accommodate long-planned gallery improvements. Get more details on our closures page.
