Japan Cultural Development of Japan Business Society of Detroit (JBSD) promotes friendship between local and Japanese communities through the demonstration of Japanese culture, and invites you to celebrate Hinamatsuri, Japanese Girls Day, at the DIA!

Visitor favorites including the tea ceremony, hina doll display, ikebana flower arrangements, and koto (Japanese zither) performances return, along with storytelling and origami workshops. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample tea and participate in hands-on workshops.

This year will feature Japanese dance performances and a special interactive art installation by Sao Ohtake, Kyoko Fujii, and Nobuko Yamasaki.

  • 11 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. Sa-do, Japanese Tea Ceremony by Masters of Omote-Senke and Ura-Senke | Danto Lecture Hall (first floor)
  • 11:40 a.m., 12:40 p.m., 1:40 p.m., 2:40 p.m. & 3:40 p.m. Nihon Mukashi Banashi (Storytelling) Performance by Ms. Shannon O’Leary | Great Hall (second floor)
  • Noon & 2:30 p.m. Koto Music Performance by MIYABI | Kresge Court (first floor)
  • 2 & 3:30 p.m. Japanese Dance: Ureshi Hinamatsuri, Joyful Girl’s Day Festival by Ms. Fujima Ouna | Danto Lecture Hall

Japanese Girl's Day at the DIA
