16th Annual Community Group Art Exhibition

December 6, 2024 – January 5, 2025

Free with general admission

*General museum admission is FREE for residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.

The DIA’s Community Group Program has partnered with human services agencies in the Detroit area for over 25 years, providing meaningful experiences through art with gallery tours and artmaking, allowing a safe, nurturing space for participants’ creative expression and socialization. The annual community group exhibition offers a unique opportunity for group members to share their artistic work with museum visitors.

In this past year, DIA studio instructors worked with long-term partners as well as new partners at the DIA artmaking studio and locations throughout the tri-county area. Projects included wall hangings, movie poster designs, wooden animal wall sculptures, paper masks, printmaking, acrylic painting, plates and platters, and ceramic footprints.

This Community Group Art Exhibition features works created by participants in human services agency programs from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Over 100 projects will be on view in the Learning Center at the DIA, adjacent to the DIA's Artmaking Studio, where most of the work was made.

This year’s participating groups are:

  • ACCESS Hope House
  • CARE of Southeastern Michigan
  • Detroit Recovery Project
  • Hannan Center
  • John D. Dingell VA Medical Center
  • Mariners Inn
  • MCCMH (Macomb County Community Mental Health)
  • OLHSA (Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency)
  • Soul Studio

The 16th Annual Community Group Art Exhibition is organized by the Detroit Institute of Arts and is supported by millage funding from Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.
