Trained in and inspired by European classical counterpoint, he draws on wide-ranging historical references while maintaining the idiosyncratic Afrocentric timing at the core of jazz improvisation.
He calls this technique Counterbop, which is fully on display in his recording Cubism – ELEW Plays Rosenwinkel.
