This lecture, presented by Rebecca Shaykin, Curator at the Jewish Museum in New York City, will explore the remarkable career of Edith Halpert (1900–1970), founder of the legendary Downtown Gallery and one of her generation’s greatest champions of American Modernism and folk art. For over 40 years, Halpert promoted a diverse roster of artists — including Stuart Davis, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Charles Sheeler, among others.
