About the Artwork
Tara Donovan uses everyday objects to create mysterious images. For this work, she collaborated with the printers at Pace Editions on an unusual technique. Working together, they pushed hundreds of dressmaker’s pins into a foam-core board, backed with a steel plate. When the pattern was complete, the printers inked the pinheads, placed a dampened sheet of paper on top, and used a hydraulic press to print in a vertical up-down motion. From this mechanical process — using mass-manufactured pins — Donovan creates something that looks organic.
