About the Artwork
Streamlined forms and silvery grays convey the luxury of Silk Department (Rayon des Soieries), an operetta by Manuel Rosenthal set in a department store. For the premiere in 1930 at the Comic Opera (Opéra-Comique) in Paris, Maurice Defrêne designed the poster, set, and costumes in the glamorous art deco style to emphasize the modern subject of the department store.
