Markings
Inscribed in Gurmukhi script, Braj language, verse 7.8 of the "Rasikapriya": (trans. from Harsha V. Dehejia, "Rasikapriya: Ritikavya of Keshavdas in Ateliers of Love," DK Printworld, 2013) The nayika speaks to the sakhi: The nayak has not kept his appointment and the nayika thinks aloud. Perhaps he was held up on account of some important household work or he was unable to get out of a meeting with friends. Is there today some fesival or ritual fast? Is he involved in a quarrel with someone and ended up with enmity? Is he perhaps unwell? Or was his love for me false? Or was it the inclement weather and rain that detained him? Is he perchance testing my love? Tell me why he is not here.
