May 6, 2016 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is celebrating Mother’s Day, May 8, in a big way, with free admission to the museum and the special exhibition “Dance: American Art 1830–1960.” The DIA is also offering free museum and exhibition admission on May 18 in honor of Art Museum Day.

“Dance! American Art 1830–1960” features more than 90 works that explore dance through diverse segments of American culture, including dances of indigenous North Americans; the history of African American dance; paintings from the turn of the 20th century; works by Harlem Renaissance artists; and modern objects that demonstrate a dialogue between visual artists, dancers and choreographers. A variety of free programs related to the exhibition are also offered on May 8:
