October 16, 2018 (Detroit)—“Splendors of India and Asia” is the theme of this year’s annual gala fundraiser at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). The event takes place on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m and celebrates the newly reinstalled galleries of Asian art in the Robert and Katherine Jacobs Asian Wing, which opens to the public Nov. 4.

“Our gift to the DIA for the Asian Wing merges our love of Asian Art and culture with our love and commitment to the DIA,” said Robert Jacobs. “Our gift also supports other DIA programs that are special to us and the community, especially the Detroit Film Theatre and the training of teachers throughout Michigan in the Visual Thinking method that greatly benefits students.”

Guests will be among the first to view the galleries, and will enjoy the outstanding works of art, gourmet food, drinks, music and entertainment. Tickets range from $750 to $5,000 with proceeds benefitting DIA educational programs. Co-chairs for the gala are DIA board members Cynthia Ford and Anne G. Frederick, and Friends of Asian Arts and Culture Auxiliary Vice Chair Anita Rajpal. Attire is black tie.

“We’re grateful to Robert and Katherine Jacobs for their generous support for the Asian art galleries,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “We worked with the Asian community on the galleries to ensure that they engage and reflect the various Asian cultures in the region. We also want to thank the Indian community for their support of the gala.”

$5,000 – Patron ticket (approx. $4,780 is tax deductible)

These ticket holders will be the first to see the newly reinstalled Asian galleries. Seating is in the elegant Kresge Court, with a five-course gourmet dinner having a unique Indian theme with sommelier-selected wines and Japanese spirits. Also included are a 6:30 p.m. VIP cocktail reception and dessert and dancing at 9 p.m.
