May 11, 2016 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts’ (DIA) popular Inside|Out program is extending its reach throughout northern Michigan this summer, with installations in Alpena, Traverse City and Mackinac Island. The high-quality reproductions of DIA masterpieces will be on view in locations around each locale from May 20 to Oct. 31.

“We’re happy to be able to ‘surprise and delight’ both residents and tourists in these popular Michigan cities,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “For those who unfortunately have been unable to visit the DIA, Inside|Out offers a chance for them to engage with our collection outside the museum’s walls, and hopefully plan a visit in the future.”

The reproductions will feature a variety artists and styles, from old masters to modern art. Among the displays in Traverse City are “The Nut Gatherers” by William Bouguereau, one of the DIA’s most popular paintings, and “Reeds and Cranes” a serene landscape by Japanese artist Suzuki Kiitsu. In Alpena, Vincent van Gogh’s “Portrait of Postman Roulin” and a painting kids love to fear, “Watson and the Shark” by John Singleton Copley will be on view. Mackinac Island will host Edgar Degas’s “Dancers in the Green Room” and “Self Portrait” by Paul Gauguin.

Maps of the specific locations and artworks at each one will be available at dia.org/insideout beginning May 20.
