American Art 1830–1960,” which ends June 12. The DIA is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, and visitors can see the exhibition, then join a free dance party from 7 to 11 p.m. on the museum’s front plaza that includes a tribute to Prince. Tickets for the upper plaza, which has access to a bar, have all been reserved, but people can still enjoy music from DJ Thornstryker and live music by the Mighty Funhouse band on the lower plaza. The museum will be lit in purple in honor of Prince.

DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons sees Friday’s event as an embodiment of his vision of the museum as a community town square. “Summer is a great time for people to gather outdoors and enjoy art, music and other activities,” said Salort-Pons. “The response to Friday’s Prince tribute has been overwhelming and we anticipate this as being the first of many programs taking place in our community’s ‘town square’.”

Also on the exhibition’s final weekend is a 7 p.m. performance on Saturday, June 11 by renowned flamenco performers La Chispa and Company, which includes guitarist Guillermo Guillen, singers Anna Colom and Imael De La Rosa, dancer and percussionist Jesus C Muñoz and Kresge Fellowship Foundation recipient Valeria Montes, known as La Chispa. Tickets are $10.
