March 12, 2020
The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority.
During this time of heightened vigilance, the Detroit Institute of Arts is dedicated to remaining a safe and welcoming place for our community and visitors. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation regarding COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and following CDC guidelines to proactively protect the health and well-being of our visitors and staff. We are frequently cleaning all public spaces and surfaces, encouraging staff who are ill to take sick days, and reminding everyone about the importance of frequent handwashing.
The DIA remains open to visitors, serving as a place for inspiration, calm and respite in challenging times. Following the guidance issued by Governor Gretchen Whitmer regarding gatherings of large groups, we are cancelling all public programs until April 13. This includes:
- Daily tours
- Drop-In Art-Making
- Drawing in the Galleries
- Friday Night Live!
- Detroit Film Theatre
- School Field Trips
- Thursdays at the Museum
- Family Programs
- Behind the Seen
- Detroit City Chess Club
- Educator Professional Development
- Lectures
- Motor OM Yoga
- Artist Demonstrations
- Puppet Performances
To safeguard the health of our staff and other visitors, we ask that you postpone your visit if you are ill with flulike symptoms, or if you have recently traveled to a region that is experiencing widespread transmission of COVID-19.
