May 5, 2016 (Detroit)—Join the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), Akron Museum of Art, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in celebrating art in unexpected places this summer with the #InsideOutUSA Photo Contest from June 3–12. The contest seeks out the most creative photos of Inside|Out works in the four cities.
All four museums will launch the contest with a simultaneous Instagram meet-up at Inside|Out locations in their cities from 6 to 9 p.m. EST on June 3. During this time, Instagrammers will come together in each locale to document #InsideOutUSA in their communities. The contest runs through June 12, and winners from each Inside|Out city will be announced on June 16.
In Detroit, enter to win by posting a photo of an Inside|Out work near you on Instagram and tagging @DIADetroit and #InsideOutUSA. Winning photos will be selected based on beauty and creativity by DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons. A list of participating communities and art-finding maps is available at dia.org/insideout.
In Detroit, the photo contest kicks off with an Instagram meet-up in the Eastern Market and the newly expanded Dequindre Cut on Friday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. Meet DIA staff at Wilkins Street Plaza (corner of Wilkins St. and Orleans St.) to pick up an art-finding map. On their own, participants will explore the Inside|Out works in the neighborhood, snap a photo, then enjoy discounted drinks at Detroit City Distillery, located at 2462 Riopelle St. Show the bartender your #InsideOutUSA photo on Instagram to receive half-off on drinks.
About Inside|Out
Inside|Out brings high-quality reproductions of museum masterpieces out of the galleries and into the streets, pleasantly surprising and delighting residents of participating communities. The DIA conceived of the program in 2010. Because of its success, Knight Foundation funded Inside|Out’s expansion to Akron, Miami and Philadelphia in 2015, with more cities to come.
