August 31, 2017 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) will showcase the power of art and creativity in human wellness during an Arts and Health Symposium at the museum on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This one-day conference highlights research and programs that integrate the arts into patient care, and attendees will learn how to build a toolkit to implement arts programs and research in a healthcare setting. Topics include best practices, funding, community partnerships and implementation. The symposium also includes open sessions led by Jefferson Frazier of the National Organization of Arts and Health, Beth Bienvenue of the National Endowment for the Arts and DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons.

“Art touches lives in so many ways, and the benefits of integrating the arts into healthcare practices are well know,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “The DIA is a useful tool for the community and has long provided art experiences for patients and caregivers through a variety of programs, both at the museum and in healthcare settings. This conference will strengthen our understanding of the power of the arts as a healing platform.”

The cost is $35, $15 for students, and includes parking, lunch and a closing reception. Attendees can receive CME and CEU credit. For tickets, go to https://www.dia.org/events/arts-health-symposium.
