April 12, 2023 (Detroit)—The Detroit Institute of Arts’ (DIA) auxiliary Friends of Art & Flowers (FAF) is hosting its 23rd annual Elizabeth Sites Kuhlman Lecture and luncheon on Monday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. This year’s speaker is the Australian-based Bart Hassam, one of the world’s premier floral designers.  Hassam began his career by creating his first wedding bouquet for a family wedding at the age of thirteen and has competed frequently in Floral Art competitions culminating in his victory at the FTD World Cup Championship in Philadelphia in 2019.

An international designer, demonstrator and teacher, Bart Hassam is known for his trademark minimalist floral design style and for his sumptuous bouquets at Maison Fleur Design, Brisbane’s most stylish flower shop, in Brisbane, Australia. Bart’s goal is “to create beauty through plant material with elegance and respect to the flower.” Bart is very excited to visit Detroit and looks forward to seeing his flower friends in 2023!

The celebration of flowers with art is the mission of the Elizabeth Sites Kuhlman Lecture, named after Mrs. Henry M. Kuhlman, one of the original founders of FAF. For more than 30 years, FAF has invited world-renowned floral designers to demonstrate how they create their works of art to enthusiastic followers.

Tickets are $40 for the lecture and $80 for the lecture and luncheon and are available at Friends of Art & Flowers 23rd Elizabeth Sites Kuhlman Lecture | Detroit Institute of Arts Museum (dia.org) or by calling 313-833-4005.
