Detroit Institute of Arts announces Inside|Out 2025 locations

Updated May 5, 2025

Detroit, MI – The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is thrilled to announce the full list of communities participating in Inside|Out 2025. Now in its 16th year, this program brings reproductions from the DIA's world-class collection to outdoor spaces across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. After a great response in 2024, Inside|Out will also be returning to Mackinac Island in 2025. This unique program aims to make it easier for residents to engage with art in their everyday lives, fostering a deeper connection between the museum and its audiences in Southeastern Michigan.

“We're honored to bring Inside|Out to our Tri-County communities and connect people with the museum's collection in new and exciting ways,” said Julie McFarland, Executive Director of Public Affairs and Engagement at the DIA. “This year, with reproductions placed across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties and Mackinac Island, we hope this small representation of the collection not only brings art to people’s everyday lives but also inspires a visit the museum.”

In 2025, Inside|Out will bring artwork to the following communities:

  • Macomb County:
    • Charter Township of Shelby
    • Eastpointe
    • Armada Township
    • Charter Township of Clinton
    • City of Warren
    • City of Roseville
    • Memphis
    • Freedom Hill
    • Henry Ford Macomb Hospital
    • Macomb Community College (all campuses)
  • Oakland County:
    • Beverly Hills
    • Davisburg/Springfield Township
    • Waterford Township
    • Village of Wolverine Lake
    • Madison Heights
    • Lake Orion
    • Oakland County Parks (Lyon Oaks, Addison Oaks, Catalpa Oaks, Orion Oaks)
    • Oakland Community College (all campuses)
  • Wayne County:
    • Schoolcraft College
    • Grosse Pointe Region
    • City of River Rouge
    • Grosse Ile
    • University of Detroit Mercy
    • Charter Township of Van Buren
    • Wayne Community College (all campuses)
  • Mackinac Island

Community members can expect to see 14 new reproductions in the Inside|Out collection this year alongside fan favorites by Van Gogh, Degas, Monet, and more. The new additions – which include the likes of Robert S. Duncanson’s Fruit Piece, Maria Blanchard’s Saxophonist, Roberto Montenegro’s Untitled (Tehuanas in Huipil Grande Headdresses), and many others – help to give residents a chance to see the diversity of the DIA’s full collection.

Art lovers can now enhance their Inside|Out experience online with new interactive webpages at dia.org. Featuring detailed maps for every participating community, this digital tool makes it easier than ever to trace artworks back to the DIA and explore even more.

“Seeing art in the community is just one way we hope people will connect with our collection,” said McFarland. “Now, with a simple scan of a QR code next to any Inside|Out installation, you can find the next closest artwork or start planning your visit to the DIA.”

The new web experience launches later this spring. In the meantime, visit dia.org/insideout for more details.

The Detroit Institute of Art’s Inside|Out program is made possible by the Tri-County millage support and Ford Philanthropy.

In addition to experiencing Inside|Out in their communities, residents of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties always receive free general admission to the DIA.
