Detroit Institute of Arts and Arab American National Museum host Lebanese pop-music singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan for concert and screening of “Only Lovers Left Alive”

Updated Nov 19, 2018

November 19, 2018 (Detroit)—Ever since the release of her debut album, Ya Nass (2013), Lebanese singer-songwriter Yasmine Hamdan’s personal, modern take on Arabic pop music has been getting tremendous global attention. She performs at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Friday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. as part of the museum’s Friday Night Live! series. While Hamdan’s vocals are definitely connected to traditional Arabic music, her arrangements include elements of Western electronic, pop and folk music.

Hamdan has performed prestigious shows on four continents, including for the launch of Jim Jarmusch’s film “Only Lovers Left Alive,” in which she sings in one of the movie’s most memorable scenes. On Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. the Arab American National Museum (AANM) will show “Only Lovers Left Alive” followed by a talk with Hamdan.

The concert and movie presentation are a partnership with the DIA and AANM. Both events are free, but registration is required for the AANM program. To register, go to www.bit.ly/AANMFilms.
