A collaboration with Mack Alive

The Detroit Institute of Arts’ first class of Young Curators completed an arts education program in August through a new collaboration with Mack Alive, a community organization on Detroit’s east side. Mack Alive selected 20 young adults from their surrounding neighborhood who are interested in becoming more involved in the arts while also serving as mentors for younger children.

The 18-24 year-olds in the program spent four days working with DIA gallery teachers and curators to learn how to look at and talk about art in ways that encourage discussion, then practicing those skills with their peers. The group then spent two days at Mack Alive’s art gallery of local artists’ work, where they applied what they’d learned, before coming back to the DIA for an award ceremony with local leaders.

Congratulations to the Young Curators!
