Carol GeorgeCongratulations to Carol George for being selected as Staff Aides Committee Volunteer of the Year for 2015–16.

She became a volunteer at the DIA in 2006 and is active in both the Staff Aides and Interpretive Program Volunteers (IPV) Committees. The award confirms Carol’s continuing commitment to the committee; the IPV Committee selected her as their Volunteer of the Year in 2012–13.

Carol first began work as a staff aide in the museum’s Research Library, using her training in library science to help catalog and shelve books. Currently, she assists with data entry for the Evaluation and Research Department. For years, she has served as the day captain for our Wednesday Staff Aides team, working on mass mailings and special projects. Additionally, Carol works with Staff Aides colleague Sue Deacon to write and edit our outstanding committee newsletter, Helping Hands. She handily accomplishes all of this while continuing to serve actively with the IPV Committee. Next year, Carol will serve as our Staff Aides Committee Vice-Chair.

Carol George was nominated and chosen for this award because she has “served with distinction for many years (without) recognition,” is “highly valued” by her fellow volunteers, and “very deserving of this honor.” Her cheery personality, proactive nature and willingness to help have made Carol a treasured member of the Staff Aides Committee. Congratulations Carol.
