Until the incomparable physical space of the Detroit Film Theatre is one again open for business, we think it’s important that DFT fans can still experience the newest and most exciting new international cinema.
This week, the DFT will begin offering a “virtual screening room” of curated film selections presented for limited runs. The series opens with Sorry We Missed You, the acclaimed new film by Ken Loach, the award-winning director of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) and I, Daniel Blake (2016).
The link below will take you to a page that guides you through the ways in which you can view the film at home. When you purchase a $12 ticket – which is good for a single viewing of the film at your convenience – a portion of the proceeds support the Detroit Film Theatre, just as when you buy a ticket to the “regular” DFT.
Sorry We Missed You is a gritty, relevant and deeply humane drama about the way in which today’s gig economy impacts the lives of a British package deliveryman, his wife and children. Overflowing with the director’s signature insights into the ways in which a nation’s economy and social structure impact everyday lives, Sorry We Missed You was a nominee for Best Film (Palme d’Or) at the Cannes Film Festival, and nominee for Outstanding British Film of the Year at the 2020 BAFTA Awards (the British Oscar).
By the way, even though Sorry We Missed You is in English, the sometimes-unfamiliar regional British accents won’t be an obstacle for your viewing enjoyment – the movie’s producers have thoughtfully provided English subtitles for American audiences!
