Education

from Alex and Olmsted

When Alex & Olmsted’s Milo the Magnificent visited the Detroit Institute of Arts last spring, this incredibly expressive duo wowed visitors with magic and lead everyone willingly into a suspension of disbelief. Now you can enjoy their work from home along with puppet making videos on their YouTube Channel(opens in new window). You can even catch Milo’s (modified) act again, along with several other fabulously talented puppet artists, by watching The 2020 National Puppet Slam: Slamdemic which was hosted live on Ibex Puppetry’s Facebook page(opens in new window). Milo’s act starts 57:30 minutes into the video, but all the other performances come highly recommended for anyone interested in puppetry!

Alex & Olmsted (Alex Vernon and Sarah Olmsted Thomas) is an internationally acclaimed puppet theater company. Their puppet show, Milo the Magnificent, was awarded a 2017 Jim Henson Foundation Grant, a Greenbelt Community Foundation Grant, and received an excellent mention in the New York Times. Alex & Olmsted is a resident company at Baltimore Theatre Project. They were recently awarded a 2020 Jim Henson Foundation Grant to further develop their outer space show, Marooned! A Space Comedy.
