Art of Dining: The Taus
Updated Aug 30, 2024
This instrument, called a taus, was popular in northern India in the 1800s. In Persian, the name means “peacock,” a word that reflects the defining feature of the instrument—its peacock shape. Drawing on one of the bird’s most iconic characteristics, the artists who created them even included tail feathers. A musician brings the taus to life by playing it with a bow.
