About the Artwork
During the winter of 1927–28, Marc Chagall — together with his wife and daughter — visited the French alpine town of Chamonix. With intense colors, he captured the deep blue of the sky and the bright light on the snow. The small church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is in the village of Les Houches, near Chamonix.
